What Causes Acne?
There is no single cause of acne that applies to everyone. What causes acne in one person may not be the same as what causes it in another. Our bodies are all different and have different tendencies. We are all exposed to different environments. As a result, our bodies will react differently. That is why two people can get different results on the exact same treatment.
There are many causes of acne that are unique to the individual. For instance in young people, the root problem will likely be a hormone imbalance just like it is with women who are pregnant or women going through menopause. In todays society we use a lot more plastics which have varying degrees of hormones in them which can further upset that delicate chemical balance in our bodies. Using the wrong treatments can cause further breakouts. For example, if you are using a cleanser or face wash that is harsh and you have sensitive skin, your probably making your acne worse.
Here are some of the more common things directly connected to acne:
* Dirty Colon: Having a dirty colon can lead to a candida (yeast) infestation. This is a major cause of acne especially in adults. A candida (yeast) infestation starts in the colon and leaches into the blood and in turn then makes its way to the tissues where acne happens. By the time people reach adulthood most probably have never heard of a colon cleanse much less tried one. Colon cleanses are available at most health food stores and ideally should be done two to three times a year. In many cases going on antibiotics will clear up the acne but after a while it usually comes back in full force and the reason is that antibiotics kills all bacteria, even the good bacteria in the colon that guards against candida(yeast). When that happens there is nothing left to shield us from the inevitable candida (yeast) takeover that will happen in the colon and eventually lead to acne.

* Food: This is a big one. Our foods have evolved over time and so have our eating habits. Remember Mom saying "Eat your vegetables". As a society we have gone from eating healthy raw fruits and vegetables and nuts, to eating the popular American diet (fast food): A greasy hamburger and fries, chips, TV dinners, ice cream, and soft drinks just to name a few. Eating these foods will clog the colon and will eventually lead to a candida (yeast) infestation. Candida (yeast) is a leading cause of breakouts especially in adults. Genetically modified foods such as wheat, corn, and other vegetables have given rise to food allergies and can be traced to acne breakouts.
* Beer: Taking in excessive amounts of beer or anything made with brewers yeast may eventually lead to a candida (yeast) infestation that will in turn, make it even harder to keep those pesky blemishes at bay.
* Stress: stress is a chemical imbalance in the body and increases the amount of oil your skin produces that can play a role in acne breakouts. Lower the stress in your life and you just might be surprised at how much better you look and feel.
* Hormones: Some women will see break outs during the monthly cycle. Many contraceptives may help relieve acne however. Pregnancy can and will change hormone levels. These effects vary widely so as some women may clear up during this time while others may get worse or see no change at all.
* Makeup: many cosmetics and skin care products have oils in them that can clog your pores, especially foundations. Use "oil free" or water based products if possible.
* Drugs: Some prescribed and over the counter medications can contribute to acne breakouts.
* Occupation: jobs that require the worker to be constantly exposed to grease and other oils can aggravate the skin producing acne such as jobs at restaurants, janitorial services and even in the construction industry.
